Build-to-stock (BTS), sometimes known as make-to-stock (MTS), is a commercial and manufacturing production method in which items are constructed ahead of time and held as inventory to satisfy future demand. Internal sales predictions, historical demand, warehouse capacity, and/or other external considerations such as manufacturing costs, customer needs, consumer preferences, shipping and transit logistics, and so on may all influence production plans. Digitally enabled manufacturers can develop smart forecasts based on automated and/or linked data from their partners and facilities.
